Joe Biden expressed gratitude to congressional Republicans on Tuesday for passing a continuing resolution that keeps federal funding flowing at current levels.
The measure, which cleared the House with bipartisan support, effectively locks in spending priorities established during Biden’s tenure, despite recent revelations of fraud and mismanagement uncovered by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
Biden, speaking from his Delaware home, praised the GOP for their unexpected loyalty to his vision.
“I was a little worried when Donald took over, but these folks have shown they’re committed to keeping America on the path I set,” he said.
The resolution, signed into law just before a potential government shutdown, ignores calls from fiscal hawks to slash budgets bloated by years of unchecked excess.
The former president’s comments come as DOGE, led by Elon Musk, has exposed billions in wasteful spending tied to Biden-era programs. Reports detail everything from inflated green energy contracts to questionable grants for diversity initiatives, yet the new funding bill leaves these allocations untouched.
House Speaker Mike Johnson defended the decision, arguing it was the best way to avoid chaos.
“We needed stability, and this gets us through the next few months,” he said. Critics, however, point out that the bill extends policies Trump vowed to dismantle, including subsidies for projects long criticized as boondoggles.
Biden seemed unbothered by the irony, chuckling as he reflected on his legacy. “I guess the Golden Age of Trump isn’t so different from my time after all,” he said. Sources close to the former president say he’s been privately celebrating the outcome, viewing it as validation of his administration’s approach.
Taxpayers, meanwhile, are left footing the bill for what DOGE has called a “swamp buffet” of corruption.
