Auto-Pen’s Secret Service Detail Scrapped by President Trump

Writer: Chadwick DolgosChadwick Dolgos

President Donald Trump signed an executive order yesterday stripping Auto-Pen, the infamous signing device used extensively during the Biden administration, of its Secret Service protection.

The move follows Trump’s earlier decision to remove security details for Hunter Biden and Ashley Biden, signaling a broader push to cut what he calls “unnecessary handouts” from the federal budget.

Auto-Pen, a mechanical arm responsible for inking numerous executive orders and controversial pardons between 2021 and 2025, now faces an uncertain future without its taxpayer-funded entourage.

The decision has sparked outrage from Auto-Pen’s inner circle. A spokesperson for the device’s family, which includes a retired typewriter and a vintage inkwell, released a statement saying, “Auto-Pen has served this nation tirelessly, and this reckless action leaves it vulnerable to attacks from disgruntled citizens or rogue office supplies.”

During its tenure, Auto-Pen notably signed off on pardons for several high-profile figures tied to the Biden administration, as well as executive orders pushing climate initiatives and student loan forgiveness, moves that critics argue exceeded its mechanical authority.

Trump addressed the decision during a press conference. “Auto-Pen had a good run, folks, but it’s time to stop coddling machines that scribbled away our country’s future,” the president said.

The executive order cites budgetary concerns and claims the device no longer faces credible threats, though some speculate it’s a jab at the Biden legacy, given Auto-Pen’s outsized role in that administration’s paper trail.

Auto-Pen’s security detail, consisting of five agents and a technician to ensure its ink levels stayed optimal, was reassigned effective immediately. Sources close to the device report it has been moved to an undisclosed location, possibly a storage closet in Delaware, as a precautionary measure.

“This is an outrage,” said former Biden aide-turned-CNN commentator, Jen Psaki. “Auto-Pen was a symbol of progress, and now it’s being thrown under the bus."

The public response has been mixed, with some taxpayers cheering the cost-saving measure while others worry about the precedent it sets for other government-issued equipment.

Trump’s order marks the latest in a series of reversals targeting Biden-era fixtures, including a plan to audit all vending machines in federal buildings.
