We're Not the Problem

Today a story is not told it’s sold.”

-Amit Abraham

Lately, I have been receiving a lot of criticism that I would like to lay to rest once and for all. One major complaint about The Washington Wick from the left is that my blog is “agenda-driven,” “biased,” and “dishonest.” While these are terms that better describe mainstream media outlets like Axios, Huffington Post, CNN, The Washington Post, The New York Times, MSNBC, and other outlets that serve as a voice box for the left’s agenda, it’s my little blog from a small Pennsylvania town with one writer that members of the left decides to take their day out on.

I’ve never claimed to not have an opinion. I started The Washington Wick as a way to express my opinion free from liberal social media censorship efforts. While I don’t particularly care for labels, I would say I most align with libertarian ideology. I believe in small government and despise socialism at any level. These views are absolutely reflected in my blog. I do take sides because I am not acting as a journalist for The Washington Wick; I am a blogger.

I am a freelance writer for a local newspaper in my area. Any article that I have written for the paper, I remain objective. I do not tell local news stories from a libertarian perspective; I tell local news stories as the stories have been told to me. These articles are not the same as what I produce for The Washington Wick, because I do not insert myself or my beliefs into object news reporting. I have never claimed that The Washington Wick is a legitimate or reliable source of news. Many who read my blog understand that they are reading the news from my point of view.

Of course journalist’s are biased; they’re human. They interact with the same world that we interact with. As a journalist, however, your job is to remain objective in the work you produce. We cannot agree that Chris Cuomo remained objective when his brother, former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, was under fire for sexual harassment allegations. In fact, CNN was exposed by Project Veritas for engaging in fear propaganda tactics to achieve the national agenda. These are the people who should be receiving these criticisms because these people are pretending to be objective news reporters.

Agenda-driven media is a problem, especially when biased media is disguised as objective reporting. Objective reporting, however, doesn’t really exist at the national level, because non-sensationalized news doesn’t put food on the table. People that actually pay attention to the news understand that it’s largely political propaganda and should only be taken with a grain of salt. Those who confuse The Washington Wick with objective reporting are simply attempting to discredit what I’m trying to do, and all I’m trying to do is get the conversation started.
